Total Donates Computers to Four SOS Children's Villages - 2020

In the spirit of the end-of-year season and its annual tradition, Total Nigeria Plc. donated 23 laptops with mobile data subscription for one year and four workstations that included desktops with one year Wi-Fi to Total SOS houses in Lagos, Ogun, Plateau and Abuja FCT.

The donation to the SOS houses commenced on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 and ended on Tuesday, December 22, 2020 as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility to the less privileged during the festive season.

In the past, Total has donated food items, provisions, clothing’s among others to the centers. Due to the coronavirus pandemic that has restricted movement and encouraged remote learning, Total Nigeria Plc. management donated the laptops to aid online learning of the children.

At the handover of the laptops and desktop to recipients at the SOS house in Sangotedo, Lagos, the Executive General Manager, Total Country Services, Bunmi Popoola-Mordi admonished the children and reiterated the importance Total places on them: “We are here to spend time with you, know your needs  and how we can come in. This year has been a strange and challenging one and I am happy that we are all complete. These are unprecedented times and people have to school and work remotely. It can’t be the usual of having small party as we usually do but the benefit you will derive from these systems, we have come to install is unquantifiable.”

There was also no difference in the handover process at the Owu-Ijebu Total SOS house. The Manager Corporate Social responsibility (CSR), Chinwe Ifechigha remarked that: “The new learning system in the world now due to the pandemic is remote learning. Apart from the laptops that were given to the children that school outside the SOS premises, there is a resident desktop in the house with installed Wi-Fi.” Mrs. Ifechigha further confirmed that parental controls were installed on all the systems including site restriction on the laptops.

In his show of appreciation, the Programme Manager, SOS Owu-Ijebu, Ahmed Bappare who confirmed he had been with the SOS for over six years said: “This is a very lovely idea especially that we are still in the coronavirus pandemic era. These computer donations are a very lofty idea. Some of the schools the children attend have online classes. I want to appreciate Total. We really appreciate your support and we are going to judiciously use this.”

Total commenced the sponsoring of a house in four SOS villages in Lagos, Ogun, Plateau states and Abuja FCT 10 years ago and has kept up with the tradition of celebrating the end-of-year with the children.
