TOTAL Nigeria Plc training policy objectives are centered on its mission statement and core values of total customer satisfaction, professionalism, with a strong commitment to Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality. Training programs are carefully designed and chosen for employees to help bridge identified gaps and assist in achieving our corporate goals.

Training is also designed towards achieving the employee's development objectives, as set by the company, which are to:

• Improve employee's ability to handle a variety of assignments.
• Cultivate and expand the overall level of capabilities beyond those required by their immediate jobs.
• Offer personal and career development opportunities for all employees.

To ensure that we achieve our set objectives, the design and faculty for each program must have to be thoroughly discussed, assessed and agreed upon.

SCOPE

Training activities are organized according to a documented training plan, which must meet certain key performance indicators as spelt out in the Total Group training policy guideline. We provide training for all cadre of staff ranging from Drivers, Depot Operatives, supervisors, line Managers, Head of Departments, Head of Plants and Depots as well as members of Top Management.

Major Areas of Training

HEALTH, SAFETY, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY (HSEQ). 

Safety consideration remains a top priority for all, not only for safety specialists, so safety trainings are geared towards creating awareness among employees to pre-empt risky behaviors in their professional environment and prepare them to handle emergency situations effectively. Our Safety training focuses on Plants/Depots (Fuel, Lubricants, Aviation) Safety systems & procedures, Occupational Safety, Environmental Protection, Network Stations safety as well as on Regulatory requirements and standards for specific operations.

BUSINESS LINE (PROFESSIONAL) TRAININGS.

Business line courses are necessary to enhance the professionalism of our teams and accounts for a major share of trainings provided. Specific areas of need are identified and training is provided to bridge the identified gaps. Employees attend Business line programs in Sales, Marketing techniques, Human Resources, Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Audit, Safety & Security, Quality Control, Purchasing, Legal, Corporate Affairs, Supply, Distribution e.t.c.

INDUCTION TRAINING.

Induction trainings are designed to enable new employees appreciate the dimension, values and challenges of TOTAL Nigeria Plc and the TOTAL Group. We also include in the induction for new employees personal issues such as planning and investing for future, which we believe will impact on the quality of the employee's life.

MANAGEMENT.

We provide management training to all employees within the supervisory and managerial grades depending on their needs. Our objective is to provide these employees with required sets of soft and hard management skills within specified periods in accordance with the Total group training policy. Thus we start with personal development training programs and progressively impart all necessary management skills within a period of ten (10) years. Consequently, all areas of management training are relevant to us.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY.

All employees are expected to have a sufficient knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point that will enable them to perform their various duties and In-house IT experts are used to provide training in these areas. Training for our in-house IT experts and some other specialized IT needs such as Autocard for Engineers, Avial for Aviation employees among others are organized using external trainers.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE TRAINING.

Foreign language training (primarily English or French) is to ensure sufficient proficiency and facilitate geographical mobility. Every employee is encouraged to study French as a foreign language, consequently, provision is made for the study of French each year in the training budget.
